Who else has been struck down with this terrible cold that seems to be doing the rounds? 🤧
Over the last two weeks, our Llandegla Honey family has been battling some pretty nasty colds, so we’ve been taking things a little slower and trying to get back to feeling ourselves again.
Thankfully, we’ve got our very own Welsh Heather Honey in the cupboard (one of the perks of being beekeepers 💛).
Our youngest son prefers his honey stirred into a warm cup of chamomile tea rather than straight off the spoon. It also makes a lovely bedtime drink even if your not feeling poorly ☕ Mark and I, on the other hand, are quite happy enjoying ours straight from the spoon 😋🍯
Honey may help soothe a cough or irritated throat, so it’s a lovely addition to a warm drink when you’re feeling under the weather. Of course, it won’t cure a cold, but sometimes it’s the little comforts that make those miserable days a bit easier. 💜

Every one of these tiny hexagonal cells is carefully built by our incredible honey bees using beeswax produced by the bees themselves. It’s a true example of nature’s engineering, with each cell serving a purpose in the busy life of the hive. 🌿
Beeswax is such a precious natural resource, used by our bees to store honey, raise their young and keep their colony thriving.

Straight from our own Llandegla honey bees here in the Welsh hills, our Pure Welsh Heather Honey is a truly special seasonal honey.
Our bees forage amongst the heather covered mountains and moorland around Llandegla, North Wales, collecting nectar from the beautiful Welsh heather when it is in bloom.
Heather honey is very different from a typical runny wildflower honey. It has a rich amber colour, distinctive floral flavour and naturally thicker, almost jelly like consistency. This is truly a taste from the Welsh hills.

Yesterday we did a little Apiary maintenance while we were removing the heather honey supers and cutting some of the thistles back now they’ve finished flowering. This hive wasn’t too happy with the disturbance as you can hear, they weren’t attacking us but you can hear from the hum it was to leave us alone. They were responding to the disturbance. The vibration, noise, smell of freshly cut grass and the movement around the entrance can cause the colony to become temporarily alert, and fanning can help communicate that something is happening. They did settle down again.
